Its distinctive bitter orange character comes from the inclusion of gentian, rhubarb and cinchona, all of which add a bitter taste to balance against the sweetness of the other ingredients. On your tongue, the blend of sweet and bitter is contrasted with a progressive dry, spicy sensation over time.
